Multinational law firmPinsent MasonsHas appointed an oil and gas specialistBruce McLeodAs a partner, based in Aberdeen.

McLeod was previously a partner in a Scottish-based company for 17 years. He has a strong track record of advising on oil-and-gas infrastructure and M&A negotiations and has been central to many innovative deals, especially in the UK, Egypt, and elsewhere.

His experience in a role as a commercial manager at BP has given him a unique skill set that will be of benefit to the oil and gas team.

Melanie GrimmittPinsent Masons’ global head of energy, Bruce, stated that the oil and gas industry is at an important crossroads in the world’s transition to a low carbon future. Bruce’s sector-based approach and international outlook give him the expertise and knowledge to help clients on this journey.

“He is a highly respected and hands-on oil and gas lawyer and has worked on complex transactions that compliment our portfolio.”

McLeod said that the energy transition was transforming the world’s energy landscape. They are expanding their investment in renewable, solar, and carbon capture projects and selling some of their oil and gas assets.

“Others are purchasing those assets and providing the necessary investment to bridge the gap between the global energy demand and the amount of renewable energy that can be supplied. From a UK perspective, the UK’s energy industry can play a crucial role by investing in platform electrification, domestic production development, and thereby reducing incremental emissions from importing oil or gas.

“The global Energy team at Pinsent Mason has a great reputation in M&A, capital market, financing and projects. Clients are increasingly relying on this breadth and size to structure and execute the deals necessary to make these investments possible.

Richard ScottPinsent Masons’ Aberdeen partner and chief executive said that Bruce’s reputation for being an oil and natural gas heavyweight does not stop at the UK Continental Shelf. It extends to many international energy hubs, where our lawyers are most active.

“His legal and commercial experience is a welcome addition to our team. He will be a tremendous asset in supporting our clients in the energy sector, whether they are in traditional oil and natural gas projects or in investments in energy transition, and the wider energy sector.”
