The first week of May is an opportunity for a highly stressed profession to take a step back and consider some self-care by celebrating the Well-Being Week in Law.

Created by the Institute for Well-Being in Law, the Well-Being Week in Law was first launched in May 2020 under the name “Lawyer Well-Being Week.” This year, it is being marked from May 5 to May 9, and the ABA is participating to support the campaign and raise awareness about the mental health needs of the profession. The theme that the IWBL has chosen for 2025 is “The Social Rx: Boosting Well-Being with Connection.” Daily themes throughout the week encourage participants to consider physical, spiritual, intellectual, social and emotional well-being. The ABA also has its own content to promote wellness. A live 60-minute CLE webinar, “Still Excited to Practice? Moving Beyond Cynicism in Law Firm,” will be offered May 9 at 1 p.m. ET by the Law Practice Division. The event is free for members. Registration is available here. A number of on-demand CLE programs are also available through the ABA Learning Center. Those and other articles and resources can be found on the Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs’ Well-Being in Law page.

Hey guys, so, like, the first week of May is like a big deal for lawyers to chill out and take care of themselves with the Well-Being Week in Law. The Institute for Well-Being in Law started this thing back in 2020, calling it “Lawyer Well-Being Week.” And now, from May 5 to May 9, the ABA is joining in to help out and make sure everyone knows how important mental health is for lawyers. This year, the theme is all about “The Social Rx: Boosting Well-Being with Connection,” which sounds pretty cool. They’ve got different themes each day to help everyone think about taking care of their physical, spiritual, intellectual, social, and emotional well-being. The ABA is also doing its part to promote wellness with a free webinar on May 9 at 1 p.m. ET. It’s called “Still Excited to Practice? Moving Beyond Cynicism in Law Firm.” You can sign up if you’re a member. There are also some on-demand programs you can check out on the ABA Learning Center website. Lots of good stuff to help lawyers take care of themselves.

I’m not really sure why this matters, but if you want to learn more or get some resources for Well-Being Week in Law, you can visit the Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs’ Well-Being in Law page. They’ve got articles and other stuff to help you out.

Overall, it’s great to see the legal profession focusing on mental health and well-being. Lawyers work hard and deal with a lot of stress, so it’s important to take the time to look after themselves. Hopefully, events like Well-Being Week in Law will encourage more lawyers to prioritize their mental health and make self-care a priority.

And that’s a wrap for now, folks! Remember to take care of yourselves and each other during Well-Being Week in Law. Let’s make mental health a top priority in the legal profession.
