maintaining-ndependence-biglaw-firms-pro-bono-deals-with-trump

Alright, so like, two Democratic lawmakers are kinda upset with these BigLaw firms, you know? They asked them about these pro bono deals they made with Trump to avoid getting in trouble with some executive orders. And guess what? The lawmakers, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Jamie Raskin, are not feeling the answers they got from the firms. They’re calling for some serious oversight into Trump’s whole $1 billion deal for free legal services. Not cool, man.

The law firms in question are A&O Shearman, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, Kirkland & Ellis, Latham & Watkins, and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. They’re saying they didn’t sell out their principles when they agreed to help Trump out with some pro bono work. Kirkland & Ellis even mentioned they’re gonna keep doing pro bono stuff for all kinds of people, not just Trump’s buddies. The other firms are also saying they still get to pick who they represent and what cases they take on.

Oh, and get this, four of the firms had some issues with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission about their diversity efforts. The deals they made with Trump helped them dodge that bullet. But one firm, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, didn’t have to deal with that mess. Looks like these firms are trying to cover all their bases, huh? Blumenthal and Raskin are not impressed with the responses they got from these firms. They’re making sure everyone knows it, too.

The whole situation with these BigLaw firms and Trump is getting pretty messy. Not really sure why this matters, but it seems like there’s more to this story than meets the eye. Who knows what other deals are going down behind closed doors, right? Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like there’s a lot more going on here than we’re being told. Let’s see how this all plays out in the end.
