“I’m appalled at the implementation in Iran on 12 December of Ruhollah Zam, activist and creator of this AmadNews Telegram station”, Ms Bachelet said in a statement.

‘Emblematic of a blueprint’
“His death sentence and execution by hanging are symbolic of a pattern of forced confessions extracted under torture and broadcast on state websites used as a foundation to terrorize people. There were, moreover, serious worries that the envy of Zam away from the land of Iran might amount to an abduction and his next move to Iran for trial may not have respected due process guarantees”

Ms. Bachelet called on Iran’s government to immediately free all those arrested for exercising their individual rights, and to immediately halt the use of the death penalty and”obscure federal security fees” to suppress separate voices and dissent.

She stated she condemned the use of the death penalty in all conditions, stating that it was irreconcilable with individual dignity, frequently reluctantly utilized, and wrongful executions might be rectified.

“Under international human rights law, even if implemented in any way, the death penalty has to be limited simply to the most severe offenses, involving willful killing, and following proceedings that fully respect the guarantees of fair trial, appeal and the right to seek clemency — accumulative conditions clearly not fulfilled in Ruhollah Zam’s situation”, Ms. Bachelet said.

‘Unconscionable’ implementation
In another announcement , two UN Special Rapporteurs — independent faith specialists mandated by the UN Human Rights Council — known as Mr. Zam’s conviction and subsequent dangling,”unconscionable”.

They stated Mr. Zam was accused of helping inspire nationally anti-government protests in 2017 and showing damaging accusations about Condition officials.

“It’s apparent the Ruhollah Zam was implemented for expressing opinions and supplying advice on AmadNews which dissented in the official opinions of the Government”, they stated.

Back in January this year, Mr. Rehman, filed a report into the UN Human Rights Council that increased concerns about Zam’s situation, stating Iranian television had aired an announcement by Zam where he expressed his”sorrow” over expecting that the Government of France and other nations.

“It’s been reported that Mr. Zam was convinced, under false pretences, to visit Iraq out of France, in which he had refugee status.

Mr. Rehman had lately told the Iranian authorities about his serious concerns about Mr. Zam’s death sentence,” the announcement said.

High Commissioner Bachelet stated several activists and protesters were given long prison terms and the death punishment for exercising their individual rights following trials which failed to meet global standards.

Those sentences caused acute offenses under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, such as the right to freedom of expression and opinion, and the right to existence, ” she explained.
