NEW ORLEANS (AP) — An officer working security in a high school basketball game in New Orleans was captured in the chest by a guy who had been denied entrance to the match, authorities said.

The guy got in an altercation with a team member after he attempted to enter the game,” Ferguson said. The officer proceeded to intervene, as well as the guy shot him in the chest, authorities said.

Two loud bangs were recorded on video shared with WGNO-TV because the high schoolers playedwith.

The college was placed on lockdown following the shooting, news outlets reported, along with the game was finally called off.

The officer was taken to University Medical Center at New Orleans where he afterwards died. Ferguson said the officer was a deputy constable with the Second City Court along with also a Tulane University police officer.

Authorities didn’t name the officer or the defendant, who authorities said has been detained quickly following the shooting.

The fallen officer was”a fixture in Carver sporting events and parades” based on a statement by the high school. “All audiences, families, and gamers are secure — a nod (to) the officer, external security support, college employees, and systems in place.”

The faculty also said it might provide resources to anybody from the Carver community that had support in the aftermath of the shooting.
